Special edition contains manga’s last chapter, fan-voted top 10 chapters

Shueisha announced on Wednesday that it will offer a special edition of its Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on Thursday titled “Yu Yu Hakusho Jump.” The special edition will contain the top 10 chapters of Yoshihiro Togashi‘s Yu Yu Hakusho manga voted in by fans, as well as the manga’s final chapter “Sore kara…”

The special edition is part of the magazine’s 50th anniversary celebrations, and is the second of four planned special editions that will contain chapters of a past Weekly Shonen Jump manga. The first special edition for Fist of the North Star shipped on September 13, while the third special edition for Dragon Ball will ship on November 2, and the fourth special edition for Kinnikuman will ship on December 4.

The Yu Yu Hakusho manga is getting a new original animation that will get a screening event at TOHO CINEMAS Shinjuku on October 6. The screening will show the first episode of the original anime, as well as the new anime, and will also have a talk show. The OVA will then ship with the fourth part of the anime’s 25th Anniversary Blu-ray Box collection on October 26 in Japan.

Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter X Hunter) published the original Yu Yu Hakusho manga from 1990 to 1994. Viz Media began publishing the manga in its English edition of Shonen Jump in 2002, and it also released all 19 volumes. The manga follows 14-year-old delinquent Yusuke Urameshi, who dies after saving a child in a car accident. The Spirit World is surprised by his death and offers him a chance to come back as a “spirit detective” who is tasked with defeating demons.

The television anime adaptation ran from 1992 to 1995, and spawned two films and two original video anime (OVAs). FUNimation Entertainment released the television series and OVAs on home video in North America. Media Blasters and later Funimation released the first film, and Central Park Media released the second film. The television series ran on Adult Swim and later Toonami.
