Tokuma Shoten launched the first digital edition of its Animage magazine with the October issue (pictured right) on Monday. The print edition will also continue.
The contents of the digital edition will differ from the print edition in some places, and the digital edition will not include appendices and gifts with purchase like the print edition.
Animage is the oldest monthly magazine on Japanese animation, and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The magazine offers illustrations, creator interviews, voice actor gravure photographs, and other information.
Animage is also one of the “big three” anime magazines in Japan along with Animedia (launched 1981) and Newtype (launched 1985). Animedia began offering digital editions in April 2017. Newtype is still a print-only magazine, but its Web Newtype site offers news online.
